Wednesday, March 18, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that due to the ongoing cleanup from today’s blizzard and the continued suspension of Halifax Transit bus service, all municipal offices and customer service centres in the Halifax region will be delaying opening until noon on Thursday, March 19.

Safety is the municipality’s top priority. Delaying opening will facilitate clearing efforts by crews and ensure a safer commute for our employees and residents.

Halifax Transit staff decided earlier tonight to continue the suspension of bus and Access-A-Bus service on Thursday morning to allow the municipality to address an issue with one of two Halifax Transit bus garages, and continue with ongoing snow clearing of major arterials throughout the region.

A decision will be made by noon on Thursday if conventional bus and Access-A-Bus services can resume for the afternoon and evening. Updates on Halifax Transit service on Thursday, Mar. 19 will be provided through a Public Service Announcement and @hfxtransit on Twitter, which is also streamed online at www.halifax.ca/transit.

Harbour ferries on both the Alderney and Woodside routes will resume regular weekday service tomorrow.

All municipal recreation facilities, including rinks and pools, will delay opening until at least noon Thursday. All morning programs are also cancelled and staff will reassess early tomorrow regarding afternoon and evening programs.

Thursday collection of garbage, organics, and recyclables is postponed until the next regular collection day on Thursday, April 2. The municipality will accommodate the missed collection by allowing double the regular garbage bag limit at the next pickup. Rescheduling Thursday's collection to Saturday is not possible given Wednesday's solid waste collection was already rescheduled to Saturday, Mar. 21.

Municipal solid waste facilities will re-open for regular operating hours on Thursday.
