The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that beginning Monday, April 29, North West Arm Drive will be renamed as part of Dunbrack Street.
The provincial Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal is currently undertaking an interchange upgrade between Highway 102 and Highway 103. As part of this project, the province has requested that the municipality rename the provincially owned North West Arm Drive. This change affects the stretch of road between Main Avenue and Old Sambro Road (see attached map).
There are no homes along the new part of Dunbrack Street, so no address changes are required. However, notification letters are being sent to residents who live on streets that branch off the soon-to-be phased out North West Arm Drive to alert them to the changes.
Residents in the area should be aware 9-1-1 emergency services has been notified of the street name change and operators will be cognizant of the change when taking information from citizens and directing first-responders to the area.
While the province requested this change, it does align with municipal civic addressing policies.
The extension of Dunbrack Street takes effect on Monday, but there may still be a transition period for signage while the province works on erecting new signs.

Le jeudi 25 avril 2019 (Halifax, N.‑É.) – La Municipalité régionale d’Halifax informe les résidents que le lundi 29 avril, la promenade North West Arm sera renommée et intégrée à la rue Dunbrack.
Le ministère provincial des Transports et du Renouvellement de l’infrastructure entreprend des travaux de réfection des échangeurs entre l’autoroute 102 et l’autoroute 103. Dans le cadre de ce projet, la Province a demandé à la municipalité de renommer la promenade North West Arm, qui appartient à la municipalité. Ce changement touche le tronçon de route entre l’avenue Main et le chemin Old Sambro (voir la carte ci‑jointe).
Aucune résidence ne se trouve sur le nouveau tronçon de la rue Dunbrack; aucun changement d’adresse n’est donc requis. Toutefois, des lettres d’avis sont envoyées aux résidents qui demeurent sur les rues qui se détachent de la promenade North West Arm, qui n’existera plus bientôt, pour les prévenir des changements.
Les résidents du quartier sont informés que le service d’urgence 911 a été avisé du changement du nom de rue et que les téléphonistes seront conscients du changement au moment de recueillir l’information des citoyens et d’affecter les premiers intervenants dans le secteur.
Même si c’est la Province qui a demandé ce changement, celui‑ci s’harmonise effectivement avec les politiques municipales sur les adresses de voirie.
L’expansion de la rue Dunbrack entre en vigueur lundi, mais il peut subsister une période de transition de la signalisation pendant que la Province installera de nouvelles pancartes.
