October vehicle/pedestrian collision stats

As part of our continued focus on pedestrian safety, Halifax Regional Police and Halifax District RCMP release a monthly vehicle/pedestrian collision report to provide police and citizens with more contextual information on this issue. 

During the month of October, there were 27 vehicle/pedestrian collisions in Halifax. Month over month, this represents an increase (+9 incidents) from the 18 incidents reported in September 2016. Year over year, there was an increase (+3 incidents) from the 24 incidents reported in October 2015. There is also a slight increase in the number of incidents (158 incidents) when comparing January 1-October 31, 2016 to the same period in 2015 (154 incidents).

For January 1- October 31, 2016, 59 per cent (94 incidents) of vehicle/pedestrian collisions occurred in crosswalks. Of the 165 pedestrians involved:

51 reported no injury 79 experienced minor injuries 19 experienced moderate injuries 4 experienced severe injuries 12 did not report their injuries to police 0 pedestrian fatalities The full monthly report is available online at:
