A Halifax Regional Police officer was injured following an incident yesterday afternoon at Police Headquarters in Halifax.

On June 4 at 1:12 p.m., a man was laying in the grass outside of Halifax Regional Police Headquarters at 1975 Gottingen Street. He stated he needed medical assistance and officers attended to determine what assistance he needed while EHS was on route. The man said he was unsure what was wrong but he needed an ambulance. While they were waiting for EHS to arrive, the man stood up and walked towards one of the officers. When asked to sit down on the front steps, he turned and then punched one of the officers in the face. The officers quickly arrested the man. He had shown no signs of aggression prior to the assault. The officer received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

Twenty-four-year-old Daniel Angus Ryan of Halifax faces one count each of assaulting a police officer causing bodily harm, assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and breach of a probation order. Ryan is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court this afternoon.
