Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – Please be advised that to assist crews with their remaining clearing efforts, the winter parking ban will be enforced overnight, from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 14.

Weather forecasts are calling for a deep freeze over the next couple of days, so it is important that crews can clear the full width of the streets to ensure access for emergency vehicles and safe two-way traffic flow.

Vehicles must be off municipal streets during the ban hours so crews can push snow back to the curb and fully clear all intersections. Residents should also be aware that under section 139 of the Motor Vehicle Act, tickets can be issued and vehicles can be towed any time they are parked in a manner that interferes with snow clearing, day or night.

The overnight winter parking ban is in effect from now until March 31, 2015; however, it will only be enforced during declared snow and ice events and clearing operations.

The easiest way to be prepared is to sign up for notifications. Register online, email contactus@311.halifax.ca or call 311 to sign up. Subscribers will receive timely alerts by phone, email, and/or text message when the ban is in effect and again when it is lifted. Residents who received these notifications last winter will continue to receive the service this year. Standard text messaging rates apply.
