A Halifax man has been charged with child luring offences.
On September 1, police responded to a complaint that a child had received a sexually explicit message over social media from a man known to her. The man had invited the child to meet with the intent of engaging in a sexual act.
The child shared the message with a trusted adult and did not meet with the man.
Cameron Copage, 24, was arrested yesterday in Dartmouth. He is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court in relation to the following charges:
- Luring a person under 16 years of age by means of telecommunication
- Breach of a probation order
Investigators commend the child for bringing the message to an adult. The incident serves as a reminder for parents and guardians to have conversations with children about what to do if they receive an inappropriate message over social media.
Anyone with information on child pornography is asked to file a report by calling police at 902-490-5020 or by using Cybertip, Canada’s National Tip Line for reporting online sexual exploitation of children, at www.cybertip.ca.
