Police have charged a man with several driving offences after he fled from police last night.
On October 21 at approximately 11:20 p.m., an officer spotted a vehicle travelling on Lady Hammond Road in Halifax with a burned-out passenger-side headlamp and no visible license plate. The officer activated emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop. The driver did not stop, turned onto Robie Street, and accelerated at a high rate of speed.
Moments later, the vehicle was located abandoned at the intersection of Robie Street and Young Street where it had crashed into the concrete base of a traffic control box. Bystanders advised two men had fled from the vehicle.
Officers located the passenger of the vehicle behind nearby bushes. He was transported to the hospital by EHS with serious injuries.
At approximately 11:45 p.m., the driver was located and arrested on Gottingen Street.
Liam Collin Cockerill, 29, appeared in Halifax provincial court today to face charges of:
- Operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm
- Operation of conveyance while impaired causing bodily harm
- Operation of a conveyance while prohibited
- Flight from peace officer-Failure to stop motor vehicle or vessel while being pursued
- Failure or refusal to comply with demand for testing
- Failure to comply with probation order (x2)
- Failure to comply with condition of release order (x2)
