Police charge man and woman for weapons offences

Police have charged a man and a woman with numerous weapons offences after stopping a suspected impaired driver.

At approximately 1:10 a.m. on May 25 officers stopped a vehicle in the 0-100 block of Kearney Lake Road in Halifax in relation to an impaired driving investigation. The male driver was issued a 7-day suspension for driving while impaired and the vehicle was seized. During the course of the investigation, officers determined that the vehicle was related to a theft under investigation by officers from the Lower Sackville Detachment of the RCMP. Officers observed a long gun and ammunition while securing the vehicle for seizure. Investigators obtained a search warrant for the vehicle and seized a shot gun, ammunition and stolen property from the vehicle.

The male driver and a female passenger were arrested without incident.

A 39-year-old Lower Sackville man is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court at a later date to face charges of:

  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm knowing it is unauthorized
  • Unauthorized possession in a motor vehicle
  • Unauthorized possession contrary to court order: firearm and ammunition (x 2)

A 25-year-old Middle Sackville woman is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court at a later date to face charges of:

  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm knowing it is unauthorized
  • Unauthorized possession in a motor vehicle
  • Assault on a peace officer
