Police charge man in yesterday’s homicide

Police have charged a man in relation to the homicide that occurred in Halifax yesterday and are releasing the victim’s name.

At approximately 9:15 a.m. officers responded to a weapons call at a business in the 1500 block of Brunswick Street. A man entered the business and attacked a staff member. A patron of the business attempted to intervene and was also injured. The suspect then fled the area on foot. The staff member, a 55-year-old man, was stabbed and taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries where he later died. The patron, a 66-year-old man, was injured during the altercation and taken to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was arrested in the area a short time later.

The victim has been identified as 55-year-old Tony Nader. 

Cymon Felix Cormier, 25, is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court today to face charges of:

  • First degree murder
  • Assault causing bodily harm
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public

Investigators believe this was not a random incident. Investigators are asking anyone with information about this incident or video from the Queen Street area, between Spring Garden Road and Victoria Road from 9 to 9:30 a.m. yesterday, to call police at 902-490-5020.
