Police charge woman in relation to multiple fraud investigations

Police have charged a Halifax woman in relation to multiple frauds that occurred in Halifax and Dartmouth over a period of 6 months.

 

On January 16, police received a report of a fraud that had occurred in the 200 block of Wyse Road in Dartmouth.  Investigators believe that the suspect had used stolen cheques to make multiple fraudulent transactions starting in December of 2018.

 

On March 8 police issued a public release asking for the publics assistance in identifying the suspect in the cases.

 

In part from the public’s assistance investigators from the Financial Crime Unit of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division were able to identify and charge the suspect.

 

Thirty-six-year-old Sherri Jean Lee Clarke of Halifax is scheduled to appear in Provincial Court at a later date to face the following charges.

  • Fraud under $5000 contrary to section 380(1) CC x 11

  • Transportation fraud contrary to section 393(3) CC

  • Uttering forged documents contrary to section 368(1) CC x 11

  • Possession of stolen property contrary to section 355(b) CC

  • Breach of undertaking contrary to section 145(3) CC

 

The investigation is ongoing and further charges are anticipated.
