A male youth faces a stunting charge as a result of a traffic stop overnight in Halifax.

At approximately 9 p.m., officers observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed inbound on the Bedford Highway, in the area of Oakmount Drive. Officers were able to clock the speed of the vehicle at 120 km/h; the speed limit in the area is 50 km/h. The Honda Civic was eventually stopped in the 1600 block of Bedford Highway.

The 17-year-old driver was served with a summary offence ticket for stunting and had his vehicle impounded. His driver’s license was also suspended for seven days. A stunting charge carries a penalty of $2,418.95 upon conviction.

Speed is a major contributing factor in motor vehicle collisions. We remind motorists that increased speed increases your stopping distance.
