After 39 years, the Halifax Regional Police/RCMP Integrated Major Crime Unit continues to investigate the murder of Helen Knickle.
On July 26, 1974, at 2:58 a.m., police responded to a report from a citizen who had found the body of an unresponsive female on the Halifax North Commons. Upon arrival, officers determined that the victim, 22-year-old Helen Diane Knickle, was deceased and the victim of a murder.
The investigation revealed that the victim was walking alone between 1:00 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. when she was attacked. The victim was residing on Cook Street in Halifax at the time of her death. Police believe there are people who have information that could result in an arrest and possible charges.
