Police continue to seek public assistance in investigation into the death of Ryan Michael Sawyer

Investigators in the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division are continuing to ask for the public’s assistance identifying a potential witness in relation to the 2022 death of Ryan Michael Sawyer.

At approximately 1:15 a.m. on December 24, 2022, police responded to a report of a disturbance involving several people in the 1700 block of Brunswick Street in Halifax. Officers located Ryan Sawyer unresponsive on the sidewalk, just east of Brunswick Street on Prince Street. He was transported to hospital where he later died. The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service conducted an autopsy and ruled the manner of death to be a homicide.

Investigators are interested in speaking to a man who was in the area at the time. He is believed to have recorded the incident and may have information that could assist the investigation. The man is described as Black, in his 20s to 30s, tall with a thin build. At the time, he was wearing a black coat and a black shirt with a gold symbol. Investigators are also asking anyone the man may have shared the video with to contact police.

This potential witness is not a suspect in the death and investigators are not seeking additional suspects at this time.
