Have you ever wondered what's on a police officer's duty belt? Or if Halifax has an Emergency Response Team? And how accurate crime shows on television really are? Halifax Regional Police and Halifax District RCMP are inviting the public to find out the answers to these questions and more during a free showcase at Mic Mac Mall on Saturday, May 13, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The showcase kicks off National Police Week, which runs May 14-20. Police Week is dedicated to increasing community awareness and the recognition of policing services while strengthening police-community ties.

The showcase features several specialized police units and will include displays, demonstrations and activities. Police officers will be available to answer questions from the public, and a number of police vehicles will be on-site, giving the public a rare chance to jump into the driver's seat of a police cruiser. Displays and booths will be located on the 2nd level near the Bay Court entrance and police vehicles will be parked outside near the Old Navy store. There will also be a FREE Shred-Instead event, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., lower parking lot, Mic Mac Mall. Shredding and recycling personal documents is an excellent way to help protect yourself from identity theft.
