On January 12 at 3:32a.m., Halifax Regional Police received a report of a collision where a vehicle struck a utility pole, breaking it off at the base, in the 6100 block of Young Street, Halifax. Callers observed a man exit the vehicle. Officers arrived and located the driver, who was showing signs of impairment and confirmed he was the sole occupant. Officers arrested the man for impaired driving. The driver did not sustain any injuries. However, the collision did interrupt power for most of the west end of Halifax.

Traffic was reduced to one lane east bound on Young Street while Nova Scotia Power replaces the utility pole and electrical lines. The repairs are expected to take several hours. A 25-year-old man from Halifax will appear in Halifax Court on a later date and will be facing impaired driving charges.
