Police investigate impaired driver who collided with a police vehicle GO#21-21734 & 21-21736

On February 21 at approximately 5:15 a.m., a member of the Halifax Regional Police in a marked police vehicle was assisting a motorist on Highway 111 southbound near the Victoria Road extension in Dartmouth. The officer was stopped behind a vehicle that had broken down and had the vehicle emergency lights activated.

A second vehicle, driving in the same direction failed to move around the police vehicle and collided directly with the police vehicle causing significant damage to the car. The officer and driver of the second vehicle were both taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and have since been released from the hospital.

The driver of the vehicle that collided with the police vehicle showed signs of impairment.  A 40-year-old woman from Dartmouth, will be facing a charge of refusal to comply with a blood demand contrary to section 320.15 (1) of the Criminal Code. She will appear in Dartmouth Provincial court at a later date.

 Highway 111 southbound between the MacKay Bridge and Victoria Road extension was closed until approximately 9:30 a.m. as Accident Investigators and Forensic Identification officers processed the scene.
