Since Wednesday, the Halifax Regional Police Traffic Unit issued 59 tickets for speeding and other motor vehicle-related offences.
Members from the Traffic Unit issued 59 summary offence tickets: 30 for speeding, 2 for stunting and 27 for other offences including no insurance and expired plates.
Yesterday, as previously reported, police charged a driver with stunting on Barrington Street for traveling at 117 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.
This morning at approximately 8:30 a.m. another driver was charged after an officer observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 102 inbound approaching Bayers Road in Halifax. The officer observed the vehicle’s speed at 115 km/h in the 50 km/h zone. A 28-year-old woman was ticketed for stunting under the Motor Vehicle Act, a charge that is automatically laid when a vehicle is travelling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit.
The fine in Nova Scotia for stunting is $2,422.50 and six points are assigned to the driver’s record. In addition, the woman was suspended from driving for seven days and the vehicle she was driving was seized and impounded. The driver was also issued an additional summary offence ticket for no insurance.
