Halifax Regional Police issued 72 tickets for speeding and other motor vehicle-related offences over the last two days.

Members from the HRP Traffic Unit issued 72 summary offence tickets on Monday and Tuesday: 18 for speeding; 53 for other offences including passing a school bus with flashing red lights, no insurance, expired plates, using a cell phone and failed safety inspections; and one for stunting.

On March 30 at approximately 4:25 p.m. an officer observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed at the bottom of the Bicentennial Highway going onto Bayers Road. The officer captured the vehicle’s speed at 107 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. A 39-year-old Halifax man was ticketed for stunting under the Motor Vehicle Act, a charge that is automatically laid when a vehicle is travelling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit. In addition, the man was suspended from driving for seven days and the vehicle he was driving was seized and impounded.

In a continued effort to address traffic safety issues and educate citizens on the rules of the road, our officers focus on speed enforcement. We all have a role to play in keeping our roads safe.
