Police issue 76 tickets for speeding and other vehicle offences

This week, Halifax Regional Police issued 76 tickets for speeding, stunting and other motor vehicle-related offences.

Members from the HRP Traffic Unit issued 76 summary offence tickets: 26 for speeding; 1 for stunting; and 49 for other offences including no insurance, expired plates, using a cell phone, bald tires, tinted windows, driving while suspended and failed safety inspections.

Officers spent time in the Quinpool Road, Quinn Street, Hollis Street, Cogswell Street, Herring Cove Road, Purcells Cove Road and Ketch Harbour Road areas of Halifax as well as the Baker Drive, Norm Newman Drive and Montebello Drive areas of Dartmouth.

On Monday an officer observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 102 near in Halifax. The officer captured the vehicle’s speed at 104 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. A 39-year-old Halifax man was ticketed for stunting under the Motor Vehicle Act, a charge that is automatically laid when a vehicle is travelling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit. In addition, the man was suspended from driving for seven days and the vehicle he was driving was seized and impounded.

In a continued effort to address traffic safety issues and educate citizens on the rules of the road, our officers focus on speed enforcement. We all have a role to play in keeping our roads safe.
