At 7:36 p.m. on Sunday, December 2, Halifax Regional Police responded to reports of five vehicles backed up on to Monaghan Drive in Halifax with a group of protesters protesting in close proximity. The situation was impacting two-way traffic and, more seriously, could have resulted in an injury to a member of the public as it posed a serious public safety threat.

The responding officers attempted to get the trucks cleared; however the group did not comply. As a result of lack of compliance and the serious safety threat caused by the circumstances, six people were arrested and are facing charges.

Halifax Regional Police would like to reiterate that it respects and upholds the right of citizens for peaceful and safe protest. Today’s actions were taken in the interest of public safety after repeated instructions to clear the location went unheeded. HRP reminds the citizens to put their own and fellow citizens’ safety first and foremost at all times.

Anyone with further information about this incident is asked to contact Halifax Regional Police at 902-490-5016.
