Police Officer Faces Criminal Charges

A Halifax Regional Police Officer faces criminal charges as a result of an incident that occurred last night in Halifax.

At 8:47 p.m., police responded to a report of an impaired driver in the area of Joseph Howe Drive and Dutch Village Road. Witnesses were able to obtain the license plate number and the responding officers located and stopped the vehicle on Coronation Avenue in Halifax. The responding officers identified the driver of the vehicle as an off-duty officer and noted signs of impairment. The driver was arrested without incident and the subsequent investigation has resulted in charges being laid against 34-year-old Constable Jennifer McPhee.

Constable McPhee, who has been with the Department for 10 years, is charged with impaired driving and having a blood alcohol level that exceeds the legal limit which is 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood (mg%). She is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on March 20, 2012. Constable McPhee has been suspended pending the outcome of this matter.
