Police Release Cause of Death in Homicide

Following an autopsy last night, police are confirming that 24-year-old Matthew Thomas Sudds was the victim of a shooting.

At 12:09 p.m. yesterday, a woman walking along Africville Road discovered a body and contacted police. Patrol Officers attended the scene and located the body of Sudds in the ditch on Africville Road, half way between the church and the container terminal.

Investigators in the Integrated HRP/RCMP Major Crime Unit are continuing the investigation into the homicide. They have spoken with Sudds’ family who last saw him on the night of Thursday, October 10. Investigators are looking to speak to anyone who can provide information on his movements since that time.

Additionally, anyone with information on his death or who witnessed suspicious activity in the area of Africville Road over the weekend is asked to contact police at 902-490-5020. Today, police are at the scene and are conducting an extensive search of the Africville Road area. As a result, Africville Park is closed and Africville Road is blocked at both the Barrington Street and the Windsor Street Exchange entrances. Halifax Regional Police will provide an update when the park has been reopened to the public.
