Police remind citizens of parking regulations

Officers out on the road today (February 4) have noted that some people are parking on streets in such a way that they may be restricting access for traffic to pass, which is particularly concerning for first responders in emergency vehicles. As per section 148(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act (MVA), citizens are reminded to ensure they are not stopping or parking in a business or residential area when less than 3 metres width of roadway remains for traffic; 3 metres or more width of roadway will allow for emergency vehicles to pass and respond to emergencies in our community.

Snow clearing is also continuing across HRM. We remind people that vehicles interfering with snow removal or winter maintenance can be ticketed and/or towed as per section 139(1) of the MVA even when the winter ban is not in effect. It’s also an offence to park a vehicle on a roadway for more than 24 hours under section 155(1) of the MVA; offenders can be ticketed and/or towed.
