Halifax Regional Police, Kentville Police Service and the Department of Community Services are warning the public after two recent incidents of people appearing to misrepresent themselves as Child Protection Services employees.

In both cases, parents were told they could lose custody of their child. In one of the instances, a family in the Kentville area was approached on social media. In the other, a parent was approached in person at their Dartmouth home by two women and a man. The suspects are described as two white women, 30-40 years old, one with blonde hair and the other with brown hair, and a white man in his 30s.

Police and Community Services would like to remind parents and caregivers that Department of Community Services employees are issued government identification cards that include photos, which they will show you upon request.

Police are asking anyone with information about these incidents or the suspect to call Halifax Regional Police at (902) 490-5020, Kentville Police Service at 902-678-3378 or Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). You can also text TIP202 + your message to 'CRIMES' (274637) or submit a tip by Secure Web Tips at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca. Calls to Crime Stoppers are not taped or traced and if police make an arrest and lay charges based on a tip, callers qualify for a cash award.
