Police stop assault with a weapon GO#20-4061

On January 9 at 2:54p.m., an off-duty Halifax Regional Police officer observed a physical assault between two men in the 2000 block of Gottingen Street, Halifax. The suspect had forced a 58-year-old victim to the ground, produced a knife and attacked. The off-duty officer immediately intervened by subduing the suspect, who was still armed with the knife. This prevented further injury to the victim. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was checked by paramedics. Police have learned this incident was not random and both men are known to each other. A 26-year-old Halifax man is held for court facing charges of Aggravated Assault, Assault with a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose.
