This Media/Public Advisory is being issued on behalf of the Fallen Peace Officers’ Memorial Service Organizing Committee

*****************************************************

This Sunday marks the Peace Officers’ Memorial Service which honours officers who have died in the line of duty in Nova Scotia.

Like last year, this year’s service will be held at Grand Parade. Police and peace officers as well as civilian employees will march from Police Headquarters on Gottingen Street to Grand Parade prior to the service. Peace officers from across the province will then assemble at the Nova Scotia Fallen Peace Officers’ Monument for a brief ceremony to honour Nova Scotia peace officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

Officers can’t do their jobs without the support and assistance from members of the public who want to do their part to make our community a safer place. This service provides an opportunity for the public and peace officers to join together to honour fallen officers.

Following are the details:

Who: Peace officers from across Nova Scotia

What: Fallen Peace Officers’ Memorial Service

Where: Peace officers and civilian employees will march from Police Headquarters on Gottingen Street to Grand Parade immediately prior to the ceremony

When: Ceremony starts at 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 16

What else: Dignitaries will bring remarks and officers and family members will lay wreathes in memory of those officers in Nova Scotia who have given the ultimate sacrifice

Note to media: Theresa Rath of Halifax Regional Police will be onsite on Sunday afternoon to help coordinate media interviews with the organizing committee members and/or event participants.
