Halifax Regional Police would like to remind the public not to leave valuables in a vehicle while it is unattended, particularly if the item is in plain-view.

Recently, trends have been noted in the parking lots and side streets around Peninsular Halifax. Items that are being targeted are purses, high end electronics, and/or laptop computers. These items are being stolen from unattended vehicles, and in many cases the items have been left in plain view inside the vehicle.

Thefts from vehicles are crimes of opportunity. Valuables in plain sight are a temptation for would be thieves. It is recommended that such items not be left in your car. If it is absolutely necessary to leave items in your car, they should be locked in the trunk out of plain view before arriving at your destination. When possible, park in open well lit areas and ensure your vehicle is locked at all times.

Anyone observing suspicious activity in or around parked vehicles should report it to police immediately at 490-5016.
