A male youth faces charges following two robberies that occurred earlier this week in Halifax.

On May 29, and again on May 31, officers responded to a report of a robbery that had just occurred at the Needs convenience store located at 6130 Chebucto Road in Halifax. In both incidents, a suspect produced a handgun and demanded cash and cigarettes from the clerk. He fled the store on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes. The clerks were not physically injured during the incidents.

Last night at 7:40 p.m., officers arrested a 16-year-old male youth after he turned himself in at Police Headquarters. A replica handgun believed to have been used in the robberies was also recovered. He was held in custody overnight and will appear in Halifax Provincial Youth Court today to face two counts each of robbery, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon dangerous and uttering threats.
