Two men are facing charges following a break and enter that occurred earlier today in Dartmouth.

At 1:13 a.m., officers responded to the 300 block of Portland Street for a report of a break and enter in progress. A 44-year-old man had just returned to his home when a masked suspect broke through the main door and pushed his way inside. A struggle ensued between the suspect and the victim before the suspect left the residence on foot empty-handed. A second suspect was seen outside the residence but he didn’t enter the home. Patrol officers were in the area quickly and located the suspects nearby on Portland Street. One of the suspects didn’t follow the officer’s commands and punched both officers as he was being arrested. The second suspect was arrested without incident. The victim sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by EHS.

Twenty-four-year-old Colin Dennis Sanderson of Dartmouth faces charges of robbery, assault on a police officer x2, resist arrest, break and enter and possession of break-in tools. Twenty-year-old Troy James Colley of Dartmouth is facing a charge of robbery. They were both held in custody and will appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court today.
