In their continued effort to address road safety and educate citizens on the rules of the road, the HRP/RCMP Integrated Traffic Unit is focussing on monitoring speed in school zones along with crosswalk and seatbelt safety during the month of September.
Enforcement of school zones will include monitoring and enforcing reduced speed limits in school zones, passing of school buses, traffic check points at or near schools and handing out material connected to back to school safety. The unit will also monitor crosswalks and seatbelt compliance in areas surrounding schools, universities and colleges. Citizens are reminded to be aware of school zones and nearby crosswalks, and exercise care in these areas to help ensure the safety of our students.
In August, the traffic unit focused on construction zones. During the month, a total of 1,079 Summary Offence Tickets were issued for a variety of offences.
