In their continued effort to address traffic safety issues and educate citizens on the rules of the road, the Integrated Traffic Unit will focus on back to school and school bus safety during the month of September.

With the school year starting and more motorists on the road, the Traffic Unit encourages citizens to watch their speed in school zones and to be aware of school buses stopping for children. Motorists are also reminded to watch out for pedestrians in crosswalks, especially near school zones.

The Unit’s focus in August was child restraints and seatbelts. During the month of August, police conducted 140 special checks. Officers issued 1,504 Summary Offence Tickets during the month for a range of Motor Vehicle Act violations, of which 59 were seatbelt tickets.
