A man sought by police after stealing a transport truck and leaving the scene of a collision turned himself in to police yesterday.

On October 31, at 4:16 a.m., officers responded to the Harvey’s restaurant located at 3434 Kempt Road in Halifax for a report of the theft of a transport truck. Two employees making a delivery at the restaurant saw a man enter the cab of their truck and drive away with the truck and attached trailer. As the truck was leaving the parking lot, it hit a minivan travelling on Kempt Road but thankfully the driver of the minivan was not injured. At 6 a.m., police received a report that the truck had been left unattended at the intersection of Jubilee Road and Chestnut Street.

On November 10, police released two videos of the man driving the stolen vehicle in an attempt to identify him. Yesterday afternoon, a 19-year-old Halifax man attended Police Headquarters to turn himself in. He was subsequently arrested and now faces one count each of theft of motor vehicle, possession of stolen goods over $5,000 and failing to stop at the scene of an accident. He was released from custody and will appear in Halifax Provincial Court at a later date.
