Police have laid additional charges against a man who was previously arrested for an assault on a man experiencing homelessness in Halifax.

On June 25, at 3 p.m., police arrested a man after receiving a call about an assault in Victoria Park on a 61-year-old man experiencing homelessness. The suspect was released from custody later that evening under conditions to abstain from communicating with the victim and refrain from being in a defined area around the scene of the incident.

Yesterday, at 6:10 p.m., police received information that the suspect had returned to the area and was in breach of his release conditions. Officers located the man on Spring Garden Road around 6:30 p.m. and he was arrested without incident.

Twenty-four-year-old Jaspaul Nijjar of Halifax is facing charges of breach of undertaking and breach of probation. He was held in custody overnight and will appear in Halifax Provincial Court later today. These charges are in addition to the charges of assault, causing a disturbance, resist arrest and breach of probation he is already facing in relation to the assault on June 25.
