(11:35 a.m.)HRM Partners in Policing are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a man who has attempted to lure children in HRM.
On May 19, at 9:57 p.m., a 14-year-old girl was walking on Oceanlea Drive in Eastern Passage, when she was approached by a man driving a dark coloured truck. The man pulled up next to her, opened the drivers’ side door, but did not say anything. The girl ran from the man, crossing the yard of Tallahassee Elementary School. The man attempted to follow her, but she was able to run to her home to tell to her family. She was not assaulted or injured.
On May 23, at 12 noon, an 11-year-old boy was on his lunch break from South Woodside Elementary School when he was approached by a man driving a black SUV on Everette Street in Dartmouth. The man asked the boy to get in the vehicle and when he refused, the man left the area. The boy ran to the school and informed the principal of the incident.
On May 31, at 9:15 a.m., a 12-year-old girl was walking on Morris Street in Halifax, on her way to St. Mary’s Elementary School. She was approached by a man driving a dark colored SUV with tinted windows, who asked her to get inside the vehicle and he would drive her to school. The child refused, ran home and reported the incident to her family.
Based on the description provided by each victim, police believe the same man is involved in each of these incidents. He is believed to be driving a dark colored SUV with tinted windows, and is described as a white man, approximately 45-years-old, 6’, medium built, with short gray hair and hazel eyes. In at least two of the incidents, the man’s appearance is described as being unkempt.
Police would like to speak with this individual and request the public’s assistance in reporting any sightings to police by calling 490-5020. Police also encourage parents to reinforce with their children the importance of not talking to strangers.
