Halifax Regional Police investigated a suspicious package this afternoon in Halifax.

At 12:40 p.m., Halifax Shopping Centre security advised police of the presence of a suspicious package at the Mumford Professional Centre. Security stated that a man placed the package next to the security office and then left. Responding officers located the suspicious package and subsequently evacuated the southern portion of the mall, from the Winners store to Chebucto Road. Pedestrian and vehicle traffic in the parking lot was also restricted.

Officers with the HRP Explosive Disposal Unit, assisted by the RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit, attended the scene. As they were in the mist of clearing the package, an employee of a courier company came forward to police and advised that he had left the package in the mall by mistake. After confirming the employee’s identity and the content of the package, tenants and patrons were allowed back inside the mall at 3:10 p.m.

No charges are anticipated.
