Traffic stop leads to weapons charges

Three men face charges as a result of a traffic stop last night in Dartmouth. 

At approximately 8:25 p.m. Halifax Regional Police located a vehicle that was travelling toward the MacKay Bridge on Highway 111. Information had been received that there may be a firearm located in the vehicle. A high risk vehicle stop was conducted on Highway 111 near the exit to Highway 118 by K9, patrol and Emergency Response Team members. Three men from the metro area were taken into custody without incident. A firearm was recovered from the vehicle. Highway 111 was closed to traffic for a period of time but has since reopened.  

Members of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division have charged a 19-year-old man from Dartmouth, a 21-year-old man from North Preston and 26-year-old man from Dartmouth in relation to this incident. All three men have been charged with numerous weapons-related offences and are to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court today.
