Man faces charges after woman forcibly confined

Investigators in the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division have charged a man after a woman was forcibly confined and assaulted on June 2 in Dartmouth.

At approximately 4:18 p.m., police responded to a report that a male suspect driving a green older model SUV had picked up a woman on Windmill Road in Dartmouth. They had a verbal argument and the woman demanded that the suspect stop and let her out of the vehicle. The man refused to stop. The woman made several attempts to exit the vehicle but the man prevented her from doing so each time by fastening her seatbelt and grabbing her arms and legs.

The woman was finally able to exit when the man stopped the vehicle near Howe Street and Windmill Road. The man fled in his vehicle southbound on Windmill Road.

A short time later, HRP West Quick Response Unit officers arrested a 34-year-old Halifax man without incident at his residence. He is scheduled to appear in court this morning to face charges of forcible confinement, assault and communicating for the purpose of obtaining sexual services.
