Update - Serious Motor Vehicle Collision

Update - June 24, 2013 (9:27 p.m.)

At approximately 4:30 p.m., Halifax Regional Police responded to a two vehicle collision on Main Street near Fader Street in Dartmouth. According to witnesses, the collision was head on as one vehicle was travelling west on Main Street and the other vehicle was travelling east on Main Street.

Each vehicle contained only one occupant. A 17-year-old male youth, who was driving one of the vehicles, was taken to hospital for treatment and later released. The other driver, a 71-year-old man, was taken to hospital with very serious injuries, and unfortunately, passed away at the hospital.

Officers from the Halifax Regional Police Accident Investigation Unit were on-scene to conduct the investigation and the road was closed for several hours. At this time the road has been re-opened to traffic and the investigation of the accident is continuing.

Serious Motor Vehicle Collision

The Halifax Regional Police are currently on-scene at a serious motor vehicle collision that occurred near the intersection of Caledonia Road and Main Street in Dartmouth. Traffic is being diverted around the accident and   Main Street has been shut down both out bound and inbound between Fader Street and Kennedy Drive. It is expected that the road will be shut down for 2-3 hours.
