Update to Shooting on Metro Transit Bus

At approximately 4:30 p.m., police apprehended a 16-year-old male without incident in relation to the discharge of a firearm on a Metro Transit bus. The suspect was taken into custody and will be appearing in youth court on February 8, 2013. He is facing numerous firearms-related offences. The other male who was involved in the altercation was arrested overnight. The 18-year-old man is facing charges of assault, creating a disturbance and breach of a court order. He will be appearing in court on February 8, 2013.

Police Investigating Shooting                   February 7, 2013 (2:40 p.m.)

The HRP/RCMP Integrated General Investigation Section is currently investigating a shooting that occurred this afternoon in Dartmouth.

At 12:58 p.m., police responded to a report of shots fired on a Metro Transit bus travelling westbound on Pinecrest Drive. Officers learned that three passengers were in a verbal dispute which turned into a physical fight. The bus pulled over in the 100 block of Pinecrest Drive and one of the involved parties discharged a firearm inside the bus. No one was injured and the three parties fled the area on foot in opposite directions.

Investigators are looking for the following individuals:

  • A white male youth, 16 to 17-years-old, thin build, fair skin and with a tattoo on his collarbone. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a ball cap and black jacket. This youth was in the company of a black female youth, 16 to 17-years-old, dark skin, with short dark hair in a ponytail.  At the time of the incident, she was wearing a red coat.
  • A white male youth, 16 to 17-years-old, tall, slender build, with blue eyes, short spiked hair and a tattoo across the front of his neck. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black jacket. This youth is believed to be the one who discharged the firearm.

Three schools in the surrounding area were advised of the shooting by police and went on lockdown. At 1:45 p.m., school officials were advised they could proceed with their normal dismissal routine at the end of the day.
