At 12:10 a.m. this morning, officers responded to a weapons-related complaint at a residence in the area of Canso Lane in Dartmouth. Two women and a man had attended the residence to check on the wellbeing of one of the occupants. While the three people were inside the residence, a 35-year-old male occupant who is known to them picked up what appeared to be a gun. Feeling threatened, the three people left the residence and called police.

A short time later, a 40-year-old female occupant was taken into police custody outside of the residence, as she was believed to be involved in the incident. She has since been released without charges.

The HRP Emergency Response Team was called to the scene and entered the residence at approximately 5 a.m. They searched the residence and determined that there were no occupants. The scene was then turned over to officers assigned to the HRP/RCMP Integrated General Investigation Section. With assistance of patrol officers, investigators searched the residence for evidence and cleared the scene at approximately 9:40 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing. At this point, no weapon has been recovered and investigators have yet to determine if the man was in possession of a firearm.
