Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – The Urban Forest Master Plan street tree pruning program will continue tomorrow (Wednesday) on Fuller Terrace between Bloomfield and North streets.
The work on Fuller Terrace is a full week ahead of schedule thanks to the co-operation this week from residents and permit-holders along Bloomfield Street who found other parking arrangements while tree pruning was performed.
So far this year the municipality has overseen tree-trimming on parts of Bloomfield Street, Connaught Avenue, Inglis Street, and Robie Street.
The Urban Forest Master Plan outlines the value in being proactive with street tree pruning activities. Damage to street trees – as well as nearby utility lines – can be avoided with more regular cycles of tree pruning, rather than simply reacting on an “as needed” basis whenever there’s a problem.
Regular pruning can also extend the life and improve the canopy of street trees.
Work along Fuller Terrace will take place between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Fuller Terrace will be open to traffic however there will be temporary lane closures and parking will not be available along the street.
Towing may take place if work crews can’t work around vehicles.
This work is expected to be completed by Friday (Jan. 9).
Motorists are reminded to reduce speed when passing through work areas. Some temporary delays may occur and drivers are encouraged to use alternative routes.
The municipality apologizes in advance for any inconvenience this work may cause.
