Victim identified in yesterday’s homicide

Police are providing an update on the investigation into the death of a woman that occurred yesterday in the area of Sylvia Avenue in Halifax and are releasing the victim’s name.

On May 17 at approximately 12:45 a.m. police responded to a report of an injured person in the area of Sylvia Avenue and Herring Cove Road. Officers located a 37-year-old woman who had been stabbed. She was taken to the hospital where she later died as a result of her injuries.

The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service conducted an autopsy and has ruled the manner of death to be a homicide. The victim has been identified as 37-year-old Chauntel Lizette MacIntyre. Our thoughts are with Chauntel’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.

 The investigation is being led by homicide investigators from the Special Investigations Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division. The investigation is in its preliminary stages and police are asking anyone with information about this incident or video from the area between 12 a.m. and 1 a.m. to call police at 902-490-5020.
