Weapons call leads to search of residence and charge

A man faces weapons charge as a result of a call in Halifax last night.

At 8:35 p.m. on August 30, members of the West Quick Response Unit attended a weapons call in the 500 block of Herring Cove Road. The caller stated that a man in an apartment of one of the buildings could be seen pointing a gun at an apartment window in the building next door. Patrol, ERT and K9 members immediately responded to assist and contain the area.

After making contact with the suspect by phone, just after 10 p.m., the man exited the apartment and was arrested without incident.

With the assistance of the Special Enforcement Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division, officers executed a search warrant at the apartment where the suspect was observed. As a result of the search, a number of airsoft guns were seized.

A 52-year-old man from Halifax has been charged with one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was released and is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on October 10 to face this charge.
