Weapons Charges

(3:07 p.m.)A Dartmouth man faces weapons charges following an incident yesterday morning in Dartmouth.

At 11:17 a.m. police responded to a disturbance at an address on Stevens Road after a woman called police and advised that a man known to her was ransacking the residence. Patrol officers responded and took the man into custody after a brief struggle. Upon searching him, officers located a handgun. By working with the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team (NWEST), officers later determined the gun was stolen during a residential break and enter in New Brunswick earlier this year.

Thirty-year-old William Mercer of Dartmouth faces numerous weapons-related charges including unsafe storage, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm without a license, possession of a weapon obtained by the commission of an offence, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of stolen property and resisting arrest. He was scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court today.
