Halifax Regional Police responded to 737 calls for service over the weekend.

Following last week’s kick-off of Operation Christmas, an annual province-wide campaign that aims to reduce impaired driving, officers set up roadside checkpoints throughout Halifax Regional Municipality over the weekend. Officers also responded to impaired driving complaints called in by the public. As a result:

  • 4 drivers were charged criminally with impaired operation of a conveyance. An arrest occurs when a driver’s blood alcohol concentration is over of 80 mg%
  • 3 drivers were issued 7-day license suspensions for having a blood alcohol concentration between 50 mg% and 79 mg%

Impaired driving is a serious offence that puts lives in danger. If you see a potential impaired driver, call 911 immediately and give the call taker your location along with a description of the vehicle, including the license plate number, colour, make and model, the direction of travel for the vehicle and a description of the driver.

Operation Christmas checkpoints will continue throughout the holiday season.
