Police have charged a youth for attempting to run students over with his car outside Citadel High School this morning.

At 8:30 a.m., officers responded to Citadel High School at 1855 Trollope Street in Halifax to a report that someone attempted to run over several students with a car. Three students were crossing the road at Ahern Avenue and Bell Road in a marked crosswalk when they exchanged words with a 16-year-old male driver, known to them. The driver made a U-turn on Ahern Street and steered his car towards the students, who were now on the sidewalk walking towards the school. The vehicle jumped the curb and narrowly missed the students, continuing on the sidewalk and grassy area in front of the school. He fled the area at a high speed and was no longer on scene upon police arrival. There were no reported injuries and the driver was subsequently arrested without incident at 10:30 a.m. upon returning to school. The vehicle involved was also seized.

The 16-year-old male youth was held in custody and will appear in Halifax Provincial Youth Court today to face charges of dangerous driving and three counts of assault with a weapon.
