Police charge man with weapons and drug offences

Police have charged a man with weapons and drug offences after an incident in Halifax on Tuesday morning. 

On September 23 at approximately 7:20 a.m., officers responded to a report of an unresponsive man in a vehicle, in the parking lot of the Esso gas station, located at 7151 Chebucto Road in Halifax.

Upon arrival, officers observed the man in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. They knocked on the window to get the man’s attention and gave verbal directions to open the door, but the man did not respond. Officers then gained access through the passenger side door. The man regained consciousness and was assessed by EHS.

After noting evidence of possible alcohol consumption and signs of impairment, officers arrested the man without incident. 

During the investigation, officers located and seized a firearm and a quantity of drugs.

Braydon McNeil, 24, appeared in Halifax provincial court yesterday to face charges of:

  • Operation of a conveyance while impaired to any degree by alcohol or drugs
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Possession of a firearm in a vehicle
  • Possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm with ammunition
  • Possession of a weapon obtained by crime
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking
