Men Charged in Dartmouth Break and Enter

Two men face charges in connection with a break and enter yesterday morning in Dartmouth.

At approximately 4:30 a.m., police responded to a break and enter on Lakecrest Drive. A man armed with a handgun broke into a residence. He was confronted by the home owner who was able to get the firearm from him. The suspect fled the area on foot. No one was injured during the incident. Two men were arrested, one shortly after the incident, and the other at approximately 3 p.m. yesterday. A gun was recovered at the scene and investigators have determined that this isn’t a random incident as the victim and the suspects are known to each other.

Twenty-year-old Matthew Randall Smith and 27-year-old Blaine Anthony Tynes were both scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court today to face the following charges:

Section 348(1)(b) CC - Break and Enter Section 86(1) CC - Careless use of a Firearm Section 86(2) CC - Unsafe Handling of a FirearmSection 87 CC - Pointing a Firearm (three counts) Section 88(1) CC - Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose Section 90 CC - Carrying a Concealed Weapon Section 92(1) - Possession of a Weapon Knowing it is Unauthorized Section 94(1)(a) - Unauthorized Possession of Firearm in a Motor Vehicle Section 95(1)(a) CC - Possession of a Restricted Firearm with Ammunition Section 96(1) CC - Possession of Weapon Obtained by Commission of Offence Section 117.01(1) CC - Possession of a Weapon While Prohibited (two counts)

Smith faces three additional charges of breaching his probation.
