October vehicle/pedestrian collision stats

As part of our continued focus on pedestrian safety, Halifax Regional Police and Halifax District RCMP have committed to releasing a monthly vehicle/pedestrian collision report to provide police and citizens with more contextual information on this issue.

During the month of October, there were 19 vehicle/pedestrian collisions in Halifax. Eighteen of these took place in HRP jurisdiction and one occurred in RCMP jurisdiction. Year over year, this represents a consistent trend with 20 incidents reported in October 2013 (18 in HRP jurisdiction and two in RCMP jurisdiction).

 From a year-to-date perspective, 61 per cent of vehicle/pedestrian collisions reported from January 1 to October 31 occurred in crosswalks. Of the 186 pedestrians involved:

58 reported no injury 95 experienced minor injuries 21 experienced moderate injuries 6 had serious injuries 2 injuries were unknown 4 passed away as a result of the collision The full monthly reports are available online at:
