The Halifax Regional Municipality is seeking nominations for its next Poet Laureate to advocate and promote poetry, language, and the arts throughout the Halifax region.
The Poet Laureate will be a resident poet, storyteller, or spoken word artist who has been recognized for achieving excellence in the field and whose body of work demonstrates connection with and relevance to, the citizens of the municipality.
Serving a three-year term beginning in April 2020 and concluding in March 2023, the Poet Laureate will be an ambassador for the Halifax region and its residents by engaging the community in activities, programs, and events that demonstrate the positive impact of literature, poetry, and spoken word.
The Poet Laureate is also expected to compose and present poems or presentations at select municipal events and Regional Council meetings, participate on the selection committee for the succeeding Poet Laureate, and liaise with municipal staff on a regular basis, including providing a written report on their experience after their term.
The deadline for nominations is Friday, Feb. 14, 2020.

La Municipalité régionale d’Halifax recherche des nominations pour son prochain poète lauréat qui fera la promotion de la poésie, de la langue et des arts partout dans la région d’Halifax.
Le poète lauréat sera un poète, un conteur ou un créateur oral en poste qui est reconnu pour avoir fait preuve d’excellence dans le domaine et dont l’œuvre démontre sa pertinence et son lien avec les citoyens de la municipalité.
Servant un mandat de trois ans débutant en avril 2020 et se concluant en mars 2023, le poète lauréat sera un ambassadeur pour la région d’Halifax et ses résidents en faisant participer la collectivité à des activités, des programmes et des événements qui démontrent l’impact positif de la littérature, de la poésie et de la création orale.
Le poète lauréat devra également composer et présenter des poèmes ou des présentations lors de certains événements municipaux et certaines réunions du Conseil régional, participer au jury de sélection pour le poète lauréat subséquent et communiquer régulièrement avec le personnel municipal, y compris pour la présentation d’un rapport écrit sur son expérience à la fin de son mandat.
La date limite pour présenter les nominations est le vendredi 14 février 2020.
